During the soup cleanse, you will be eating soups for 7 days and taking Dr. P’s Rejuvenaide.

This menu is specifically designed for your initial cleanse. Cleansing the body gives the intestinal tract a 7-day vacation which helps stabilize the entire nervous system. If you remember from reading the Eat To Live Packet, 70% of your immune system is in your GI tract. Your immune system plays a vital part in the body’s attempt to defend itself from foreign invaders. This cleanse will not only give your body the rest it needs, it will also benefit your health and overall well-being as you enter a new way of eating for life!

Water

Whether or not you use the Rejuvenaide, you will be required to drink half your body weight in ounces per day (________oz) of distilled or reverse osmosis (RO) water per day.  You will more than likely be drinking this water for about three to six weeks.  It should be purchased in glass or polycarbonate containers because most other plastic containers leach chemicals into the water very easily.  While this is not healthy for anyone, it will more greatly affect hypersensitive individuals.  The polycarbonate container has a recycle #7 symbol stamped somewhere on the container.  Do not leave these containers in the sun or in your car when it is hot as the heat will cause the plastic of even polycarbonate containers to leach chemicals into the water.

Sprouts and Natural Grocers/Vitamin Cottage should be able to help you with water and containers.  Check with Eldorado Springs and Culligan to see if they can deliver distilled or RO water to your home or office.  After the three to six weeks of distilled water or RO water, you should begin to drink two quarts or more of purified or artesian water per day.  If you have any questions about what water source is best, please ask.  We use Indian Peaks Water in Boulder for our artesian water needs.

Coral Calcium

One important supplement that I use is called Coral Calcium.  Coral Calcium is a Sango coral from Okinawa rich in over 70 minerals that, when added to water, ionizes into one of the most bio-available mineral solutions you can find.  When the body is unhealthy and diseased, the pH level is usually acidic which means your body is degenerating.  In order to bring your body back to an alkaline pH level where the body can repair itself, Coral Calcium is used.  Drinking two or more quarts of distilled or RO water with Coral Calcium will allow nutrients and supplements to become more biologically available to your system.  It can also help cleanse the kidneys, intestines and liver by breaking down heavy metals and drug residues in your body.  In addition, it helps to protect your body from free radical damage.

Tea

Ginger tea: grate or slice fresh ginger root (one tsp) into your tea cup. Pour boiling water over ginger, cover, and leave for 3 minutes

Soups

The soups you will be creating will be based on homemade meat stock. Meat stock aids digestion and has been known for centuries as a healing remedy for the digestive tract. Homemade meat stock is extremely nourishing and is full of minerals, vitamins, amino acids and other nutrients the body desperately needs for overall well-being. Do not use commercial soup stock as they are highly processed and are full of detrimental ingredients.

Once you make your meat stock, it can be frozen in the freezer or will keep in the refrigerator for about a week. Do not take the fat out of the stock. It is necessary for healing the gutYou need meat and bones to make good stock. Chicken, turkey, and fish will make excellent stock with different flavors and different nutritional compositions. Bones and joints are of particular importance as they enrich the stock with the kind of nourishing substances which meat alone cannot provide. It can be quite inexpensive as you are using the parts that butchers usually give away almost free. The meat and bones can either be fresh or frozen and there is no need to defrost before cooking. All that is necessary is some organic sea salt and organic pepper.

(Information from Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Natasha Campbell-McBride)

How to make meat stock

****Disclaimer for MSG Sensitive Patients***

When cooking your bone broth do not exceed 2 hours. For some patients when they are sensitive to MSG making bone broth the traditional way (for 4+ hours) will release glutamates. To some people it can cause a reaction the same way they would react to MSG. During the soup cleanse process it is important give your body the most simple foods so that it does not have to work to digest or come in contact with anything you may be sensitive to.

Chicken or Turkey

Put a whole chicken or turkey, half chicken or turkey, or parts (thighs, legs, etc) in a large pot. Cover with reverse osmosis or distilled water. Add a little sea salt and heat it up to the boiling point. Simmer for about 4-6 hours. Take the chicken out and allow the chicken or turkey to cool. Remove the bones and cut the meat up into small bites and return it to the broth OR set it aside apart from the stock in freezer bags and use it in your various soup recipes.

Fish

You may make fish stock using a whole fish, fish bones, fins and/or head. (Whole Foods usually has an abundance of fish bones that they sell for a very reasonable price). The best fish bones to use are those from wild, lean white fish such as halibut, cod and flounder. Boil the fish bones in reverse osmosis or distilled water. Simmer for about 4-6 hours. Take the bones and the meat out and put it through a sieve to remove all the small bones. Extract the bone marrow out of the large tubular bones while they are still warm.  (To extract the marrow, bang the bone on a thick wooden chopping board)

This stock will keep well in the refrigerator for at least 7 days, or it can be frozen

++Remember: Use a conventional stove++

++Do not us a microwave to warm up soup or stock++

What To Know About Meats:

Fish:  Cod, Halibut, Salmon, Sardines (Canned In Olive Oil or Water), Trout, Tuna.

Always buy fresh fish over frozen fish because commercially frozen fish are preserved.

If buying frozen fish at Vitamin Cottage, the package states the contents are

preservative free.

Always buy wild caught or line caught, NOT farm raised!

Chicken and Turkey

Buy only organic free range and hormone free meats. There is a difference between

organic and free-range poultry. The organic and free-range fowl are fed organic feed

that will not contain any chemicals or be genetically modified. This will, in turn, produce

a better, healthier source of nutrition in the finished product. You may purchase chicken

or turkey whole, or in pieces

Cooking Methods

Baking, frying, broiling, grilling, and steaming are great methods of cooking. Use of a convection oven is also acceptable. However, do NOT use a microwave to cook or heat food, because microwave ovens destroy nutrients in food. (See www.TheLifeCenter.biz for more on microwave oven dangers.) Do not use aluminum cookware. Do not use Teflon®-coated products.

Vegetables You Can Use During The Cleanse:

++BUY ORGANIC WHENEVER POSSIBLE++

Asparagus, avocado (L) (F), beets (tops and roots F), broccoli (MSG), brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower (F), celery(F), collard greens, dandelion, dikon radishes, endive, ginger, green beans, greens, Jerusalem artichokes, jicama, kale, kohlrabi, leaf lettuce (Bibb, Butter, Oak Leaf, Red, Romaine), parsnips, radishes, rutabagas, salsify, spinach (MSG), summer squash (yellow and zucchini), swiss chard, turnips (tops and roots). • 1 quart of water (reverse osmosis) 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 Tbsp sea salt 1 tsp ginger powder
  • 2 Tbsp acidic vinegar

Basil, Bay Leaf, Black Pepper, Coriander, Dill, Fennel Seeds, Garlic, Ginger, Leeks, Onion, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage, Celtic Salt or Sea Salt, Scallions, Tarragon, and Thyme.

What To Know About Buying Spices:

*Always buy organic*

Fresh spices are available and have richer flavors than dried spices. Spices are available in the bulk section of health food stores. They are much more economical to buy in bulk, because you are not paying for the bottles. If you choose to buy bulk, small glass containers can be found in many stores such as Vitamin Cottage, Target, Cost Plus World Market, Wal-Mart, or Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Storage of Vegetables, Fish, and Poultry

 Easy-to-use storage containers are:

1) Plastic Tupperware® containers

2) Glass storage containers/jars with lids

3) Reusable vegetable bags

4) Ziploc® bags

Whatever storage method you use, remember:

a. Visibility is most important! How easy is it to see the contents?

b. Container usability. How easily can the contents be removed?
